Curriculum:
This page is a work in progress. More coming soon!
Choosing Curriculum:
Before selecting curriculum, it is important to decide what philosophy or style of education works for your family. More on this can be found on the Where to Start page.
Choosing curriculum can be the hardest and most overwhelming part of homeschooling.
There is an amazing amount to choose from. What is the right style? Then which company has an engaging curriculum that works great with your child?
Highly Recommended Curriculum:
Phonics:
Teaching reading: It is not about sight words. It’s all about learning phonetically. This is so important.
An Ordinary Parent’s Guide to Teaching Reading is my favorite for teaching phonics! And we add a ton of readers to go along with it.

Math:
Abeka - I love the Abeka workbooks for the younger years. Abeka is colorful and engaging, and it is a spiral curriculum.
Here is a wonderful link to understanding the spiral approach and why it is important:

Saxon – Many schools and CC families use Saxon. It will get the job done. It is spiral and covers everything you need. BUT- it is so dry and boring! I personally am not a fan at all. We lasted a few weeks and then switched to Abeka.
Teaching Textbooks - This is a great program that you download onto your computer. The student completes all of their lessons on the computer. It has lectures and also walks through examples. If you student gets a problem wrong, it also walks them through how to do it correctly. This is wonderful for a busy home because the students can work more independently. It goes from 3rd grade through high school math. I use this for my older children.
